The School is in the village of Mnarani, in the Kilifi District of Kenya. Mnarani village is on the southern side of Kilifi Creek on the coast of Kenya 40Km north of Mombasa. The school has a pupil role of 1600, with an average class size of 80. It is regulated and funded by the government and follows the normal Kenyan education system and curriculum. Unfortunately, Mnarani is a poor area with a high level of unemployment. Consequently the majority of the children are very malnourished, which obviously effects their health and education. As with other areas of Africa there is a high incidence of HIV/AIDS in the local area with the consequence high numbers of orphans. The Headmaster is Hassan Abdulatif, who has been appointed to raise the standards of the School. Whilst the staff and parents do their best there is a large gap in Government funding for the school. As can be seen the classrooms are very basic and the teachers do not have access to many teaching aids. There is a shortage of good quality toilets, which again leads to health problems. The School's postal address is:Box 735, KILIFI, Code 80108, KENYA. Click here for the School's web site. | Mnarani Aid Charitable Trust
Mnarani Aid has been formed as a Charitable Trust to improve the facilities for the pupils of Mnarani Primary School. It was set up in May 2008 to raise monies to assist Mnarani School and is registered with the UK HM Revenue & Customs, which allows the opportunity of reclaiming tax under the Gift Aid scheme. When we visit the School we discuss with the Headmaster and his staff which projects he would like to complete with the funds we have available. After the work has been carried out we photograph the results and obtain the receipts from the suppliers etc. In this way, we know that all the funds available are spent on the School with no administration costs. The Trustees are; Ian Graham, Wendy Graham and Clifford Sumner. The Trust is currently supported by amongst others; The Eglington Family and the Aylsham Rotary Club in the UK and the Mnarani Club in Kenya. The children at the John of Gaunt and Corpusty Primary Schools in Norfolk UK, have raised funds and exchanged letters with the children at Mnarani. The Trust can be contacted at Info@mnaraniaid.co.uk If you would like to know how to help us please email: Help for Mnarani.
